Becoming Mrs. Lewis

Becoming Mrs. Lewis, written by Patti Callahan, is the beautiful retelling of the friendship and eventually the marriage of Joy Davidman and C.S. (Jack) Lewis.  You will feel the joy and the pain of the life circumstances that both Joy and Jack must walk through!

The reader will get an up close look at the pain and uncertainty that Joy walks through during the  infidelity and drunkenness of her first husband.  After the darkness of the days of her marriage, Joy will find new hope as God leads her to a new life in England.  Her friendship with Jack, which began in letters exchanged across the ocean, would grow into something so much more!

When the hardships of life descend on Joy and Jack, you will see them both draw near to their God.  This is tale not to be missed!

An Hour Unspent

An Hour Unspent will wrap up Roseanna M. White's Shadows Over England series.  You will again see this group of orphans, who have joined together to form an atypical family.  This latest tale will focus on the leader of the group, Barclay Pierce!

Barclay experienced a life-change, when he came face-to-face with the God in an earlier book in this series.  Now, rather than haunting the streets of London, stealing whatever he can to support his family, Barclay has found work with the British government to help in the war effort!

Barclay's latest job is to make contact with Mr. Manning, a watchmaker in England, who is working on a device that could assist the English pilots in their battle against Germany, in the early days of WWI.  Barclay soon meets the watchmaker's daughter, Evelina, and he knows his life will never be the same!

When the watchmaker suddenly winds up missing, his family can only fear that he has left, due to family quarrels.  You will not believe what happens next.  Barclay discovers that the clockmaker did not run away, but rather he has been kidnapped by the enemies of England, to get their hands on his design!

Watch and see what happens to the relationship between Barclay and Evelina, as they search high and low for the location of where the watchmaker has been hidden!

A Christmas by the Sea

Melody Carlson's latest Christmas novella is entitled A Christmas by the Sea.  The main character is Wendy Harper.  She has just received the surprise of her life: her grandfather has left her his cottage along the shores of Maine!  Her son, Jackson, is ready to leave Ohio and start a new life in Maine; however, Wendy is simply hoping to sell the cottage, to pay of the debts left after her husband's death!

You will see how hard Wendy and her son work to restore this cottage.  Along the way, they meet a local furniture builder, Caleb Colton, who helps them settle into the lifestyle of this small, coastal town!

While Wendy is filled with wonderful memories of her time with her grandparents and cannot deny the beauty of this place, she cannot see a way to financially support her son in a tourist town.  Hold on to see what answer God places before her by the time you reach the final page!

While the ending falls on you a little too quickly, this little book was worth the read!

I received this book from Revell in exchange for my honest review.

Freedom's Light

The majority of Colleen Coble's books take place in the current day settings; however, Freedom's Light occurs in the days of our country's founding.  This tale will follow Hannah Thomas, who after her husband's death, attempts to keep their lighthouse functioning, providing a light to warn the ships at sea of the rocky coastline!

After Hannah helps rescue a sea captain, Birch Meredith, whose ship did crash on the shore, she has no idea how complicated her life is about to become.  While Hannah is not sure what side of the conflict Birch is on at first, there is something about him that draws her!

When Hannah learns that Birch's younger brother's death was caused by a British soldier, she is determined to lead Birch toward God as the One to make things right.  Birch is just as determined to take the matter into his own hands!

When you see Birch finally get his enemy in his sights, you wonder if he will take action himself or if he will trust God for the final act.  Hold on to see where each character in this tale ends up, when the conflicts are finally all over!

I prefer Colleen Coble's suspense-filled tales; however, the historical tale, like Freedom's Light, is definitely worth the read!
