With This Pledge

With This Pledge is the latest tale from Tamera Alexander.  This author retells the tale of the Battle of Franklin, as close to reality as any fiction writer could.  You will learn what Elizabeth "Lizzie" Clouston must endure as she leaves her work as governess to the young children of a wealthy family on a plantation outside of Franklin to become a nurse and assistant to the surgeon treating the many young soldiers injured in these final days of the Civil War!

In these first days of caring for the wounded, Lizzie encounters Captain Roland Ward Jones as he is being prepped for surgery.  Roland makes one request of Lizzie:  DO NOT let the surgeon remove his badly injured leg!

Once Lizzie successfully prevents the doctor from removing Roland's leg, she finds more work left to accomplish.  Lizzie's mindset has slowly changed from the Confederate beliefs that she was raised with throughout her life.  Her heart is now drawn to help these former slaves to gain the tools, such as reading and writing, they will need to help them adjust to this new world!

This was a hard book to read in some respects, as you see the awful reality of war; however, by the final pages, you see how God can bring something beautiful from the mess we as humans sometimes create in our world!

Just Let Go

Just Let Go, by Courtney Walsh, continues her latest series.  On the opening pages of this tale, you will yet again find yourself in Harbour Pointe, Michigan.   Quinn Collins is preparing to open her own flower shop when she suddenly meets a newcomer in town.  Quinn's father, the local sheriff, has arrested Grady Benson, a famous Olympic skier.  When her father signs Grady up to work off some of his community service time at her shop, Quinn has no idea what she is in store for!

Not only does Grady not have any carpentry skills, he seems to continually distract Quinn from prepping her new store for its grand opening!

This is an interesting tale.  As God not only leads Grady and Quinn closer in friendship and maybe something more, He also deals with the deep hurts from their pasts!

In the Shadow of Croft Towers

In the Shadow of Croft Towers is the debut novel from Abigail Wilson.  You will meet Sybil Delafield on the opening pages of this tale.  Sybil is fresh out of seminary and she is planning to fill a position as a lady's companion at Croft Towers.  The only problem is Sybil's coach is robbed before she can even reach her destination!

This gothic tale, set in the early 1800s in the countryside of England, is full of unknowns and problems to be solved.  Hold on as you walk with Sybil, while she looks for the truth in this new world!

It was great to discover a new author, who can tell a very interesting and yet a clean tale!
