Sir Andrew and the Authoress, by Sally Britton, is a tale set in London, England in the year 1819.  Following the death of his father, Sir Andrew has been “adopted” by the Montfort family.  The Duke of Montfort considers Andrew a son; however, his oldest daughter, Josephine seems to be constantly annoyed by him!


When Andrew escorts the Duke’s children to the country for their protection from the possible Luddite uprisings,  he is surprised when he gets a peak into Josie’s  life.  She has been secretly trying to have a book published.  Unfortunately, Josie has had no success, as yet!


It is interesting to discover what type of relationship develops between Josie and Andrew.  Will it be merely a friendship or something much greater?

A Companion for the Count continues Sally Britton's latest series. Miss Emma Arlen is serving as companion to Lady Josephine and her current task is to distract the Conte de Atella. Luca is the latest man who wants to catch Josie's eye; however, Josie has no interest in this Italian man!

This is a fun tale as Emma must try many maneuvers to accomplish her task. The ending may be something no one anticipated!

In Windswept Way, by Irene Hannon, you will see Ashley Scott and Jonathan Gray trying to find their place in this world.  Jon must deal with the wounds he brought home from his time in the Middle East.  Ashley is looking to help restore Edgecliff, a historic estate in a remote area of Oregon.  Eighty-year-old Rose Fitzgerald is the current mistress of Edgecliff.  She hopes that Ashley, with the help of Jon, will bring life back to her beloved home by creating a museum and a special events venue!


Soon after the work begins, Ashley discovers that Rose had been keeping a secret.  She plays the piano like a world-class professional.  After Ashley encourages Rose to play the piano during her open house, she wonders what other secrets Rose might be hiding.  Little does she know that Rose is making plans of her own.  Not only does Rose want to help a young woman meet her dreams of learning to play the piano; but also, assist Ashley and Jon find their way to a relationship that is more than just acquaintances!

After the Shadows, by Amanda Cabot, opens in a seemingly all-American town.  However, Emily Leland has just returned to her family home, only to find her sister Louisa is extremely bitter that Emily had not been able to help with their mother’s final days.  Little does anyone know that Emily’s husband had intentionally kept her in the dark about her family.  Her husband had abused her both emotionally and physically.  The fact that he is no longer living has given Emily a new freedom, but Emily has more healing to do.  When Louisa and Emily head out to the barn looking for their father, they are surprised to find his body hanging at the end of a rope!

One of the first to cross Alice’s path is Mr. Rupert Gardiner, the scientist working to document much of the flora and fauna that exist on this land. When Rupert discovers that Alice has an interest in this type of work, he realizes he has found the perfect partner to help complete his work!

You will soon learn that Rupert and Alice complete much more than just a scientific journal!

Second Time Around

 















Second Time Around, by Melody Carlson, opens with Mallory Farrell attending her daughter’s wedding alone, due to her long-time boyfriend deciding he needed to move on.  After all the festivities, Mallory heads back to her quiet fixer-upper home!


She had recently learned that her grandmother left her a tourist shop as an inheritance.  When Mallory heads to the beach she knew as a teenager, she crosses paths with Grayson Matthews, formerly Todd Matthews, the handsome lifeguard many of her acquaintances had been in love with.  After Grayson offers to buy the tourist shop, Mallory is not sure what direction to take.  Now she has a decision to make!


When Mallory decides to hold onto the property, she soon learns that she has a monster job of restoration on her hands.  A friend in town introduces her to a contractor, so Mallory is ready for the work to begin.  When this contractor turns out to be a disaster, watch as Grayson steps in to save the day!

Miss Newbury’s List, by Megan Walker, tells of Rosalind Newbury as she prepares for her upcoming wedding.  One item is slowing her down.  As a child, she created a list of ten things to complete before she gets married.  Rosalind knows of only one person, her best-friend Liza, who can help her accomplish this before her big day.  When Rosalind arrives at Liza’s doorstep, she finds that no visitors are welcome!


When Rosalind learns from Liza that the house is closed due to her cousin, Charlie, having caused a ruckus in London, she knows she must tackle the list alone.  As Rosalind attempts to fulfill the first item, to swim by herself, thankfully Charlie is nearby and saves her life when she begins to drown!


One down with nine to go, it is interesting to see who helps her complete the list.  It is even more interesting to see how her life changes completely by the final page of this book!
