The Rescue

 

The Rescue, by Lori Wick, again takes place in Collingbourne, England.  You will see old characters, as well as meet some new, in this second tale of her English Garden series!

Robert Weston has inherited a property in town and is checking out the area when Anne Gardiner suddenly lands in his arms.  In an attempt to placate her military father, who is not currently not in a right state of mind, Anne pretends to marry this man who has been caught off guard!

When Robert heads back to London to discuss this situation with his mother, he leaves Anne at his new home.  Robert is unaware that she will spend the next week cleaning his house in an attempt to make up for the “marriage” he was exposed to!

After gossip about this “marriage” starts circulating throughout Collingbourne, Robert decides to ask Anne to marry him in an effort to protect her.  It is interesting to see what actually comes of this hasty marriage!

The Proposal

 

The Proposal, by Lori Wick, opens with William Jennings suddenly gaining three young children when his cousin unexpectedly dies.  His world is definitely about to change.  William’s first thought is to seek help from his sister; unfortunately, he has not seen her in years!

Not only does William have three young lives to meld into his world; he also does not know what to make of his sister’s dear friend Marianne Walker.  She has been trusting God for the man He intends for her to walk through life with; however, William does not seem to fit the mold!

This is an interesting tale to follow as you see God at work in both William and Marianne’s lives!

Fatal Witness

 

Fatal Witness, by Patricia Bradley, begins with Danielle Bennett as a young girl being hidden away so she does not see the brutal killing of her parents.  Now 25 years later, with no memory of her earlier life, she is building her life as a talented artist making beautiful pottery creations.   When Danielle’s picture is published in a national ceramic magazine, her image is noticed by both friends and foes!

Dani’s grandmother, Mae Richmond, is also a well-known potter and has been searching for Dani for years.  When she sees Dani’s image in a pottery magazine, she pulls in K-9 officer, Mark Lassiter, to help make contact with Dani!

After Dani meets her grandmother, she is intent on learning more about what happened to her parents all those years ago. When Dani and Mark are targeted by a sniper, you know this tale is about to get very intense.  All Dani wants to do is find justice for her parents!

You will never believe who the mastermind is behind all these killings.   The person does not show up until the final pages of this fast-paced tale!

Embers in the London Sky

 

Embers in the London Sky, by Sarah Sundin, opens with Alesia van der Zee Martens planning to run away from her husband with her young son, Theo, to join her family in England.  However, before she can make to out the front door, her husband Bas had returned to declare that the Germans had crossed the Netherlands border and he needed to escape to England to have a safe place to run his business.  So indeed Alesia would be heading to England, but unfortunately it would be in the presence of her abusive husband!

 When Bas hands her son over to another family traveling to England, Alesia fears never seeing her boy’s sweet face again.  When her husband is killed before she learns who has her son, Alesia is certainly at a loss!

Hugh Collingwood is an Englishman attempting to record some of the events taking place in France.  In the midst of the fighting, Hugh’s asthma begins to act up.  He knows this is the last place he should be; however, the reporter in him will not let him stay away.  When Hugh suddenly crosses paths with his older brother, he is again reminded of the danger this place could bring to his lungs.  Before Hugh is placed on the next ship headed back to England, he watches as his brother’s ship is destroyed!

When Alesia and Hugh cross paths in London, they soon team up in an effort to locate her son.  The situation gets quite complicated when they finally find Theo.  Alesia has no papers and this couple has claimed him as their own.  Hold tight to discover if Alesia will ever be reunited with her young son!
