The Patriot Bride

In Kimberley Woodhouse's latest book, The Patriot Bride, the author will take you back in time to the founding of our country.  The Revolutionary War was a time of suspicion and intrigue, where you did not know if you could trust your own neighbor!

It was fun to return to this time and be reminded of events you learned about earlier in your life.  This book introduces you to two fictional spies, Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber.  As you follow these spies around the back streets of Boston, you will be reminded that the early Americans were willing to give up everything, even their own lives, for the sake of this new land!

You know how this story will end; however. it is fun to be reminded of the colorful characters involved in the early days of our country, The United States of America!

Sons of Blackbird Mountain

Sons of Blackbird Mountain begins the latest series of books by Joanne Bischof.

After Aven Norgaard loses her husband, she decides to journey from Norway to America to make her new home with her late-husband's cousins.  When Aven arrives at the Norgaard Farm, she meets Thor on the lane leading up to the family farmhouse.  Once Aven meets all three of her new cousins, she is surprised by two facts.  First, she was expecting these cousins to be young boys, not grown men.  Second, the lack of conversation with Thor on their walk to the house was not due to rudeness; but rather, because this newest member of her family, was born deaf and is unable to speak!

Aven learns that the oldest, Jorgan, is soon to be married.  She is excited to know that there will soon be another female added to the household.  However, when the two other brothers seem to have their eye on Aven, she does not know how to balance this new revelation.  Aven's uneasiness grows further, when she learns that the farm is financially supported by the hard cider that Thor brews from their apple harvest.  Aven's late husband died, primarily from his addiction to alcohol!

The atmosphere in this house grows rather chaotic as Thor's family works very hard to help him overcome his own addition to alcohol.  Hang on to see if Thor's desire to overcome this addiction is successful and where the state of this family will be at the end of all their hard work!

Looking forward to the next book in this series, Daughters of Northern Shores!

Formula of Deception

Formula of Deception is the first book by Carrie Stuart Parks that I have read.  It is definitely a fast-paced tale as you follow Murphy Anderson around town in Kodiak, Alaska!

After Murphy, an artist, joins the local police group to help document a dying man's last words, you may be surprised when this man and his caregiver wind up dead the next day!

Murphy has her own mystery that she is trying to solve.  She is driven to understand the details surrounding her twin sister's death, which occurred years ago!

This tale is full of so many details, it is difficult to keep track of it all.  As individuals involved with the police investigation keep winding up dead, Murphy does not know where to turn next.  Hold on until the final page for all the pieces of this investigation to come together!

I was somewhat disappointed with this tale.  In light of that, I do not think I will be quick to pick up another of Carrie Stuart Parks books any time soon!

On the opening pages of Kristi Ann Hunter's latest tale, A Defense of Honor, you are introduced to the main characters in this tale, Katherine "Kit" FitzGilbert and Graham, Lord Warton.  Kit is a young woman who has left the London social scene to focus on caring for illegitimate children, who have sadly been left as orphans.  Graham is a wealthy young man, who is looking for something of value to fill the hours of his life, other than gambling and dancing his days away.  Watch and see what these two young people find!

A Rumored Fortune

The soon-to-be released, A Rumored Fortune, is the latest from Joanna Davidson Politano.  I was excited to get an early look at Joanna's newest book!

There are many mysteries contained in this tale.  It begins with the death of Tressa Harlowe's father, Josiah.  His body is never found, only his empty boat floating close to shore.  Next, Tressa and her mother must somehow locate where her father's fortune has been hidden.  They have debts and employees to pay!

This tale was a bit more laborious to read than her first book, Lady Jane Disappears; however, in the end, this latest book is worth the read!
